Overview
 Built
in 1928 for guests of the Prince of Ubud, The
Hotel Tjampuhan & Spa came to prominence in
1934 when it became the starting point for Pita
Maha, an artists' association founded by Tjokorda
Gde Agung Sukawati and the noted Western artists
Walter Spies and Rudolf Bonnet.
Recently renovated and extended under the supervision
of the Royal Family, the Hotel Tjampuhan &
Spa continues the dream of Pita Maha by maintaining
a sacred, private retreat surrounded by immense
natural beauty. The heart of the Hotel Tjampuhan
& Spa is the former home of Walter Spies,
offering comfort and seclusion with excellent
facilities, supplemented by a choice if air-conditioned
or fan-cooled rooms.
67 individual dwellings built in traditional Balinese
style are scattered among landscaped terraces
and gardens, offering private views of the tropical
river valley and the 900 years old Gunung Lembah
temple complex which marks the meeting of the
sacred Oos and Tjampuhan rivers.
All buildings enjoy the natural insulation of
traditional Balinese thatched roofs, surrounded
by tropical greenery and flowers. A unique grotto
setting, decorated with traditional carvings and
stonework, is set into the river valley, offering
hot and cold whirlpool baths, sauna and steam
rooms.
Natural spring water pool, swimming pool, two
restaurants and four bars, movie house, spa, safe
deposit facilities, car rental, tour and travel
information, gift and shop boutique, laundry and
pressing and programme of cultural activities
are available.
